Document Summary
Cognitive: the subjective experience of an emotion you know what a specific emotion feels like. Physiological: bodily changes with changes in emotion. Behavioural: body language (facial expression, intonation) Ekman suggests that there are some facial expressions that are innate: even if people are blind from birth they still express some emotions the same way. In certain cultures expressions can be considered innate. Of course, some are learned culturally (ie in tibet you stick your tongue out for hello) Primary/pure emotions are the ones that are innate . Mixed emotions are idiosyncratic and are tougher to gauge: desire, jealousy, pride, love, disappointment, relief. Common sense: a stimulus causes an emotion that causes autonomic arousal (not really accepted, i tremble because i feel afraid . Facial feedback hypothesis: when you have a certain facial expression the brain picks up which muscles are involved and in effect tells you how you are feeling.
