Document Summary

Naturalistic observation- used when you want to describe or measure behaviour in a natural setting. Needs to be public and hidden identity, must be ethical. Disadvantages: no control over the situation, time consuming, ca(cid:374)(cid:374)ot i(cid:374)fer (cid:272)ause a(cid:374)d effe(cid:272)t (cid:894)(cid:455)ou do(cid:374)"t k(cid:374)o(cid:449) the (cid:272)ause of the (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iour(cid:895, misinterpretation. Subject reactivity- the subject is reacting to them being observed making the results inaccurate. Behaviour checklist- researcher needs a checklist of behaviours they are observing/recording. Inter-observer reliability rater- having multiple observers to measure the observations and recordings so you have multiple view points of an observation study. Experimenter biased or expectancy effect- when your biased or expectations make you misinterpret a observation study. Experimental method- the experimenter manipulates certain variables and controls others.
