Used to be called multiple personality disorder. People have two or more distinct personalities. Each personalities can have their own characteristics. One can be a smoker, the other a non smoker. The different personalities are not aware of another; at least the main personality isn"t. Lost time: person cannot remember hours or entire days. Can be a gradual or quick switch. Billy had a total of 10 different personalities. Vast variation: acquitted of raping 4 women, on account of that he didn"t commit the crimes. One of his personalities is the one that committed the rapes, and another personality turned him in. Differences in accents; different histories, different skills. Spent a decade in various mental hospitals; his 24 personalities merged into one, and he lived his life quietly. Some people do not believe this disorder exists at all. Some skeptics believe that this disorder has only recently become popular. Only 200 cases until 1980; increased by 35 times since.
