Document Summary
Biological perspective on neuroscience: to understand behaviour, we must examine the brain and nervous system. An assumption is that for every thought and behaviour there is a corresponding physical event in the brain. Electrical stimulation of the brain; brain mapping. Two different hemispheres, connected by tissue called corpus callosum: started from penfield (neurosurgeon, dominant hemisphere; typically left hemisphere of brain. For most people this hemisphere is where language is processed: split-brain patients; when doctors sever/ cut corpus callosum. When this was done, patients were unable to do certain when people have severe epilepsy. Brain is split in half. tasks and that lead to specialized research on brain: each hemisphere of brain controls opposite side of body, information goes through opposite hemispheres. Ambidextrous: use both hands the same; equal use of both hands. Mix-hands: use some activities with one hand and other activities with the other. Neuron (nerve-cell): basic building block of nervous system: sensory neurons, motor, interneurons.
