Memory retrieval cues: priming- the activation, often unconsciously, of particular associations in memory, context-dependant memory- our memories depend on context and on the cues we have associated with that context. Mood-congruent memory- tendency to recall experiences that are consistent with one"s current good or bad mood. Interference: proactive interference- the forward-acting disruptive effect of prior learning on the recall of new information, retroactive interference- the backward-acting disruptive effect of new learning on the recall of old information, motivated forgetting. Encoding failure- not being able to recall because the cues used at encoding do not match the cues you used at retrieval. Storage decay- information fades from our memory. Retrieval failure- cannot access stored information accurately due to an interference, inappropriate search strategy, physical or mental state, or motivated forgetting. Distortion- we produce inaccuracies to the material.
