Document Summary

Sensation: the process whereby our sensory organs gather info from the outside world: the stimulation of the sensory organs. Perception: the process by which the brain organizes and interprets these sensations so that they have meaning. The study of how physical stimuli are translated into psychological experience. Noise any type of interference; doesn"t have to be sound. Decisions process or the respond criterion that"s involved. 3 types of perceptual organization: form perception, how stimuli are organized into meaningful patterns/shapes, depth/distance perception, perceptual constancies. Gestalt (german word for whole: first ones to study form perception, gestalt laws: consistent ways in which we organize information and as a result perceive it a certain way. Depth distance perception: binocular cues are necessary for depth perception. Psych 1010: convergence: where eyes move inward as an object gets closer the brain calculates the degree of convergence, retinal disparity: slightly different view of an object falls on each retina, disparity greatest for close objects.
