A technique used to describe the relationship beween two variables (x & y) Taking data, and making inferneces of the sample - inferences. Z test - we knew the variance of the population. Variables are observed and measured but not manipulated. Just ibserving and measuring the variables as they naturally occur. Plot down the data and stick it in a formula. You cannot make cuase and effect statements of correlational studies. Repeated measures design, a bunch of xy pairs. Good practice, that before you start to observe this data, you should plot the data. Reason: once you have done that, plotted the data points, i can tell right not, before i do any analysis, that i will get a high correlation. Characteristics of a relationship: direction (defined by the sign, we will be solving for r, and when we crunch the numbers, itll be either positive or negative which will be speaking to the direction of the realtionship.
