Goals of psychological science: to describe things/phenomena in the world. (ex: what is jealousy like?) To explain is to answer why? : to apply to the world and other situations (ex: helping people who are jealous) The scientific method is: a commitment to test knowledge through observation and (if possible) experimentation . It is a set of ideas that can explain why some research findings occur/why we get this kind of data, but also integrates the findings (tells you how they relate to one another) It is a set of explanatory principles used to make sense of and integrate a range of empirical findings . It is a set of statements that explain a phenomenon. Explains why different and related phenomena occur (why different results occur) Provide a guide for research, narrowing the questions asked during research.
