17th century human reason was replacing superstition, beginning of the age of enlightenment. Influenced by joseph breuer = used hypnosis to treat hysteria , neurosis with bodily symptoms like paralysis but without symptoms, no reason for this bodily symptom. Freud wanted to find a cause of the symptoms that didn"t have a physical basis. The three interact and it"s so difficult to separate their function, they don"t act individually. It is also the reservoir of psychic energy, it will furnish the power for the ego and superego. He called the true psychic reality, because it represents the subjective world/reality. It experience fear that someone is watching you even though you have no idea of the objective world of reality.
