More likely to use external attributions to explain our own behaviour, but internal attributions to explain others behaviour. Ex. someone cuts you off when driving- internal attribution would be calling them a jerk, etc. Vs external attribution would be saying they must be running late, etc. Western society is more likely to make this error. We(actors) are more likely to choose external attributions for our own behavior, whereas observers(others) are more likely to explain the same behaviour with internal attributions. Likelihood of someone being persuaded by a message depends on 4 factors-source message, channel, and receiver. Who is telling you the info (celebrities, politicians) Likeability, similarity to yourself, attractiveness, credibility, trust, expertise. An approach to research and theory in social psych that integrates models of the brain with social psych to study possible mechanisms of social behaviour. Social pain and physical pain rely on same neurobiological pathways.
