o After practicing psychoanalysis develop his own brand of
psychotherapy.
▪ ***Roger’s approach to psychotherapy was considered
revolutionary because:
• it required no diagnosis,
• Required no labeling of disorders
• Required that disturbed individuals be called “clients”.
o Goal of therapy:
▪ Help people overcome their Conditions of Worth
▪ Help people live by their Organismic Valuing Process
o Roger’s therapy became client-centered when Rogers realized
that the therapist had to make an active attempt to understand and
accept a client’s subjective reality before progress could be made.
