Document Summary
A paradigm is a set of shared assumptions that includes both the substance of a theory and beliefs about how scientists should collect data and test the history. Causes of abnormal behaivour = biological abnormalities. The disease model structural, functional, but something biological is going on, and hereditity seems to predispose a person for illnesses. Evidence to support biological paradigm: 1 - behavior genetics, 2 - molecular genetics, 3 - biochemistry, behavior genetics. Examines how much of individual differences in behavior are due to genetic makeup. Genotype: the physiological genetic constitution of a person( unobservable, fixed at birth and not a static entity ) Phenotype: changes over time, observable behavior characteristics, product of interaction between genotype and environment. A child may be hard wired for high intellectual achievement, but will require the environmental factors as well. Studies the first and second degree relatives of probands.
