In dsm-iv, mood disorders included: unipolar disorders, major depressive disorder, dysthymia, bipolar disorders, bipolar i and ii, cyclothymia. In dsm5, depressive disorders now a separate category from bipolar and related disorder. Depressive disorders: major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dsm-iv: dysthymia), premenstrual dysphoric disorder, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder, substance/medication-induced depressive disorder, depressive disorder due to another medical condition. Common features: sad, empty, or irritable mood, o(cid:373)ati(cid:272) a(cid:374)d (cid:272)og(cid:374)iti(cid:448)e (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ges affe(cid:272)ti(cid:374)g perso(cid:374)"s (cid:272)apa(cid:272)it(cid:455) to fu(cid:374)(cid:272)tio(cid:374). Differ in terms of duration and presumed etiology. Depressed mood or a loss of interest or pleasure in daily activities consistently for at least a two- week period. Occupational, education or other important functioning negatively impaired. Not due to alcohol, drugs, medical condition. In dsm-iv, there was an exclusion criterion for a major depressive episode that was applied to depressive symptoms lasting less than 2 months following the death of a loved one (i. e. , the bereavement exclusion).
