Document Summary

Groups" structure are often organized in predictable patterns. The more groups there are, the more norms there are. Roles set of behaviours expected of people who occupy certain positions. The more roles there are that people are able to understand with expectations, the more grouplike they would become. Norms a consensual standard that describes what behaviours should and should not be performed in a given context - the more norms that groups have, the more set of rules that govern behaviour. Standards people agree to that dictate how they behave. Group cohesion: the strength of the bonds linking individuals to the group - the stronger the bonds, the more cohesive the group is. The tighter the bonds, the more group like it is. Attraction to specific group members and efforts to achieve goals. Entitativity is perceived groupness rather than an aggregation of independent, unrelated individuals. Gestalt principles = groups are more than the some of its parts.
