Girls tend to internalize and boys tend to externalize. Anorexia nervosa: refusal to maintain a minimum normal body weight, intense fear of gaining weight, distorted body image, amenorrhea. Girls and women account for more than 95% of cases. Bulimia nervosa: recurrent episodes of uncontrolled binge eating, followed by purging activities aimed at controlling body weight. Girls and women account for over 90% of cases. Binge eating disorder: recurrent binge eating in absence of compensatory weight- control efforts.
