Instrumental activities of everyday living: use the telephone, go shopping, prepare meals, complete housekeeping tasks, do the laundry, take medication, handle finances, disease physiological characteristics, symptoms and changes that are diagnosed and given name. Illness general physical, psychological, emotional and social discomfort caused by or associated with the disease: disorder psychopathology or mental illness, disability impairments in the ability to complete daily tasks. In contrast with acute illness, which is short-term and more readily treated: older adults tend to have fewer acute illnesses and more chronic illnesses, acute illnesses can be more dangerous although they don"t occur often. Behavioral risk factors for chronic diseases: there are certain factors associated with chronic illnesses: age, low-income individuals (lack of resources) Cardiovascular disease: coronary heart disease lack of blood supply to heart muscles, hypertension: abnormally elevated blood pressure.
