Psyc 4030 - lecture 7: the process of behaviour therapy. Identify the conditions that maintain the behaviour: find out the maintaining antecedents and consequences, establish a baseline, so we have a source of comparison when we start providing treatment, design treatment plan, evaluate the treatment plan. Different ways to engage in assessment post-treatment: aba design, how does this work? first a is to observe the behaviour over a set amount of time. Watch this behaviour to see how many times this behaviour occurs over 15 min period: b is the intervention. Remove helmet and see how many times the head-banging behaviour occurs over 15 min: advantages: It is a case study, so we get a detailed picture of the person. It is hard to get funding for this, because it may not extend beyond n=1: some treatments are not easily reversible, sometimes unethical to remove a treatment because might cause harm, such as with head-banging example.
