o Define independent variable, dependent variable,
extraneous variable, and experimental control.
What is a hypothesis?
Independent Variable is manipulated
Extraneous Variable: Variable that you want to prevent
from affecting outcome of your experiment.
Experimental Control:
• Hold environment constant (except for IV)
• Make sure that the characteristics of your participants are
equivalent.
o What are some common problems with
experiments that lead to plausible alternative
interpretations (confounds)?
1) Correlation does not equal causation
2) Experimenter Effects
