Document Summary

Law is one of the defining characteristics of a given society. Makes a society distinct from other societies. Hardly you can find identical law, but you can find similar laws. Bill of rights > freedom of expression, and freedom of speech (canada) The law not only defines relationship between individuals, but individuals and society as a whole. Morality: guiding principles, values, that tells you what is right and wrong, good and evil. Related to ethics, a certain behaviour that is expected of an individual, and/or as a society as a whole. Law and morality, they are related - but there are significant differences. Law deals with many things, might not deal with what is right and what is wrong. The law is generally written down in white and black. What is avoided and what should be allowed, it is there. For morality, it is meant for the individuals, sins of conscience. Morality, leaves issues ambiguous and leaves to bigger interpretation.
