Stuart hall"s encoding/decoding: the producer chooses what to express, and the viewers decode it with their own knowledge and experiences (cid:224) understanding the code, hall sees the audience as not passive, we can all see the ideologies and decode them, can be used to explain the public"s reaction to miley"s performance, continuum of possible reading positions: Scene from springbreakers movie (cid:224) girls get in trouble and a gangster bails them out of jail: role reversal: gun = penis, woman is dominant, the man is a damsel in distress , the women are acting slutty , afterwards they use their sexuality for their own needs (cid:224) level the balance of power, the man still takes control towards the end, he is the one who takes the guns in his mouth, he moves his head etc, the women manipulate their bodies and use their sexualities to show the gangster than they are equal to him.
