Includes: paid labor, self employed labor and unpaid labor (in the home) Key transformations in the nature of work. Social organization of work- relations between management, workers, coworkers, and customers. Work activities based on age and gender. Work use to be extremely specialized ex. cobbler, tailor. Specialization created new lines of work but also narrowed the range of skills needed. Social relations of productions- relationships between employee, employer, coworkers, suppliers" ext. Primitive societies: relationship is cooperative and egalitarian. Some skills are held to be more important. Relationship between peasants and landowners / employee and owner. Bureaucracy- hierarchical system which clearly designated offices and responsibilities and a clearly defined chain of responsibility leading to the top position. Hierarchical relations often take the form of bureaucracy. Majority of how government and modern corporations work.
