Document Summary
Law and society lecture: space and citizenship feb 28th 2018. Discourse or narratives are about stability, civilization, culture and nationhood. Keeping this a white mans country- national identity seen as only white. The logic of inclusion/exclusion- who belongs and who doesn"t. Space like the law is a social construct. Imagined lines/boundaries change in relation to national understanding. Law is about the space, which is socially produced. The legal perspective shapes the special and the social, just as the social and the special shape the legal. This leads to the understanding that space is political. Mapping is the organization and symbolic reproduction of space and special relations. Unmapping- is used to not only denaturalize geography by asking how spaces came to be, but also to undermine the idea of white settler innocence and uncover the ideologies and practices of denomination. Unmapping used to make visible what has been invisible. Un-reveal the racialized structures both national mythodologies and white settler ideologies.
