According to wright, human beings have structured their society or lives around the idea of progress. For him (the author) our civilization"s future is uncertain as human beings have not learned anything from their past mistakes. For example creating ultimate weapons of mass destruction which can be used to end human civilization. The ruins of other civilizations tell us how those civilizations fell victim of their own quest for progress. I selected this quotation because it reflects how much we believe on the idea of the bigger the better and take it as progress without realizing the negative side of this ideology. I agree with the author that human beings just look ahead and try to devise new ways of conquering the world without realizing its consequences.
