State of the art in law and society. Globalization is not being shaped by law, but law is being shaped by globalization. Additionally, our perceptions of law are changing as a result of globalization. Countries create international law: backdrop: assumes that world is made up of countries distinctly modern development. Different governments and countries might have their own legal systems, but they need to develop agreements about common norms. Historically there were obvious points where you would want international law. Global health law: not a topical issue at the moment. Health is one of the areas where likewise international law has a long history. Recognition of passports & issues of immigrants (early 20th century: having international and common rules about how these things should work, same thing applies for regulating air space. There was a weakness in thinking about legal systems just being based in particular places.
