Document Summary

Eating disorders- module 6- stages of change and approach to practice. Usually very low for people with eating disorders. Denial and resistance to change are common in most people with anorexia. People with bulimia are a bit more motivated to change. The slender body image is the most difficult concept to change within these people and the protective features of binge-purge behavior. Anorexic people rarely seek treatment on their own. If they do, they will go from food preoccupation, depression or anxiety. For people who do not want service, first line of defense is denial. Will deny being very thin and fear of weight gain behavior. After denial, clients might try to subvert therapy by manipulating their apparent weight, disposing of food, and distracting attention from their physical status. Feels like your not talking to someone who is not physically present. Usually starts from the force of appearance to conform to cultural ideals of slenderness (multidetermisnsm)
