For plato the soul (psyche) is very much divided between itself and the body. The soul is this part of the self that acquires liberating knowledge of the forms through education. The body for plato is part of the phenomenal world and like the phenomenal world is imperfect. Plato divides soul the soul into three parts: In the republic plato refers to people that have souls of desire as bronze souls, or as freud refers to it the id. Has to do with acquiring honor fame and courage. It is the part of the soul where emotion resides. Has to do with reputation and how others view you. Plato refers to people that are dominated by spirit as silver soul. For plato the reason part of the soul is the part of the soul that discovers truth. Plato argues that reason is the part of the soul that controls the other two.
