Life is not lived in detachment but in choice. The most important choice to make is to choose faith. There are 3 ways you can choose to live your life: aesthetic. Aesthes existence= encounters are either pleasurable or painful. Presents is encountered as what delights us or what bores us. Main problem= boredom, always have to be entertained. You do not have much of a self. Modern hedonism at some point people can move into : ethical. The fact that one chooses to be ethical. One chooses to feel the bite" of the ethical. *one learns to say no to ones self. *one chooses to take responsibility for one"s actions in all seriousness. The fact that you choose to be ethical is important, you grow as a person when you decide that you are going to submit to moral/universal laws. Open yourself up between the problem of choosing between good/bad, right/wrong.
