Historical & social forces in the construction of race and identity. Europeans see people from the middle east as barbaric, salvages, uncivilized and they need saving in order to become proper individuals: their way of living in incorrect. This is because europeans have never seen or been in these countries. Understand the relationship between the development of capitalist economy and the construction of slavery based on race. Discuss the economic reasons as well as ideological justifications for the enslavement of black people. Define mercantilism and discuss the important of slave trade. Colony: these are the countries which have been conquered by the mother country; their resources are used in order for the mother country to gain profit. Mother country: the country that goes into other places and conquers then - Spain, portugal, france, england, etc. they have the power, economic resources and willingness to go out into the world.
