Based on the method of the natural sciences. Tends to have a series of central oppositions. Most human motivation is fundamentally the same everywhere. Society is to be understood as the sum of individuals and individual actions. Defining social facts: external, general, constraining and observable. It exists external to the individual and influences the individual. One may act in a way constricted by social facts without knowing they are constrained. In some sense we are talking about something real. Less a discrete class of objects than an approach. They have lost control of how their bodies are seen. Saying that in some sense that they shouldn"t be objectified by saying they are. If social facts involve an approach to society then we are faced with a substance with a contradictive nature. Sociology has a difficult time being fully objective or subjective and is always going between the two.
