The shared common goal between locke & machiavelli. Regardless of their approach in attaining ideal sovereignty of a state between people and government, John locke and niccolo machiavelli shared a primary interest, the improvement of society. What leads to their separation in governing methodology is their stance on how a ruler should behave and act in order to gain sovereignty. Both philosophers survived in different eras in which different governmental figures, styles and influences existed. There is no doubt that either of these philosophers wanted the state to be administered efficiently for the advancement of its whole. The thesis of this composition primarily revolves around the concept of the collective intention between both philosophers that aimed to preserve and establish sovereignty of their state through different measures. Lastly, after introducing and contrasting their ideal systems of governmental control, this essay will compare their underlying, joint aim to establish a sovereignty with nothing but success for the entirety of the state.
