Think about family, which is affected, shaped by. Allows to understand the race, class, ethnicity of different family forms. How is the family as an institution connected to other things: class, environment, gender. Intersectionality to understand women are not a hemangiomas category. We can extend this to the dominant mother-hood. Mid 19th century, uk, usa, canada, ideal of motherhood, that isnot only about gender, but really white, heterosexual. Religion is also important when thinking about the family. Gender perspective: religion plays a role, at the institutional level, determine what is and isnt the proper family. Marriage, is constituting family, part of a religion, also economic arrangement, and relationship. Origins of the nuclear family are from the capitalist norm: creates needs for the family, that they can fulfill, need to function, capitalist expansion family, male= breadwinner, female = mother, less kids or few kids. Divorced parents still live together, or one moves down the street, still a family.
