We are part of social groups that are culturally specific to that time. It is not necessarily the same as sexual orientation. We can talk about what is normal as a particular time and place and what is abnormal . It is important because this will affect things like who we have sex with when, where, and how we understand ourselves as sexual beings. It comes from institutions that we are part of. We can talk about another term called : sexualisation. We see the media plays a role in this as well as other institutions. Social process to justify for someone else"s benefit, not the person themselves. They are controlled because of their sexuality. The individual"s value then comes from their sexual appeal or their sexual behaviour to the exclusion of all other characteristics. Specific to our sex/gender, class, race, etc. Our sexuality is something is completely natural. Critique biological determinists explanations: problematize the natural connection of procreation.
