The final point at the end of our first lecture (#3b) was gender as a major organizing tool of social life; affects power, status, access to resources, privileges and opportunities . I provided a few examples and here are some more. See what you can find as well that demonstrate how and why gender roles, expectations, stereotypes etc are so important in our lives. I do encourage you to regularly read newspapers such as the toronto star & Globe & mail, and to consider signing up for online news such as women"s enews . Look for articles that take a gender based analysis or comment on research that does this. This is one of the reasons why women account for about 70% of the world"s poor. Do some research to find out the numbers for women"s participation in different countries. Consider whether women are in top jobs" both in corporations and in politics.
