Outline: introduction: understanding gender, why is gender a development issue, gender, class, and race/ethnicity, wid (women in development) & gad (gender and development) Within modernization theory and dependency theory, academic understandings of development is a central concern; For instance, women"s movements both in the north and the south; Academic trends and changes, especially in social sciences always related to broader political developments. Of the world"s 1. 3 billion poor people, it is estimated that nearly 70 percent are women. More women working for wages than ever in human history; higher rate of increase in participation in the labour force than men; Canada, 1976 to 2009: the employment rate for women with children have been steadily on the rise during the past three decades. Women in canada have become increasingly well-educated and today represent a larger share of the labour market than they have ever represented previously (2016) Canadian women earn an average total income in 2008, up 13% from 2000.
