We can find pockets of high poverty and inequality in developing states due to globalization. Readings by susan george - explain it well, but wants to cover it in class as well. Can be seen as latest phase in the development of capitalism. Earlier, we looked at the origins; now, fast-forward to contemporary. Globalization, technology yes, but primarily an economic and socio-cultural phenomenon linked to rise of capitalism worldwide. Need a strong grasp of this for third paper. Imf/wb, some policies they have been pursuing in the third world; Given rise to a new set of economic development policies; Tailored to further advance unfolding of corporate-led globalization. More than an economic doctrine and set of policies. Offers a vision of society, and of individuals living in the society. Consider globalization as an ideology; an ideology should be conceptualized as a set of values and principles that can be connected to; common sense.
