Ap/sosc 1801 lecture one health, illness and power. Health and wellness comes from a population health framework: this framework covers a broad aspect of health, social, emotional, intellectual. World health organization (who) is a super national (transnational) non-governmental organization (ngo) Who definition of health: not merely the absence of disease and illness but complete social, physical and mental wellbeing: very broad definition, implies everyone is sick, doesn"t fit context of everyday life. Functional health is a term developed from sander kelman: refers to the state of being that is required to function everyday. Despite having a headache a person can function as a capable person: better measure when it comes to thinking about health disparities. Social theorists definition of health is not focused on functional health, but rather the forces that shape health: they define health as access to and over basic material and non-material resources that are required for good heath.
