Mechanical: develops from primitive mechanical form to : pre modern societies were very close-knit affair. As it becomes more complex through div of labor, etc. Mechanical solidarity breaks down and it"s replaced by organic society. The bond of similarity where peoples material lives were the same, there was a deep consensus in moral values. Little house on the prairies where there was little variation in the community, very basic division of labor. These ancient societies had very repressive laws in order to reinforce the collective conscience/social solidarity. Organic: higher form: exists in advanced societies, based on mutual dependence. Complex division of labor where the ability to do ones job is based on others doing theirs. Ex. can"t teach if people don"t grow food and we go hungry. Social glue: a collective binding of social values. Group outlook holds the individual in place.
