Further emphasized the commercial nature of broadcasting us government ruled that it would allow larg radio corporations o design an advertising- based system for radio that was adapted to television. Has been the case until the end of 60s had to do with defeat of wagner- hatfield bill. Supporters of public television that had drafted a bill that was defeated in. As a result of this defeat, the provision that the bill would set aside 25% of all frequencies for educational/non-commercial broadcasting was eliminated. Public pressure motivated congress to finally do something about creating a national public broadcasting system similar to what had been done by the bbc in england. Went backwards most others started with public and eventually allowed private but us did it the other way around (only private companies came at first and public broadcasting made inroads) Created two corporations: cpb (corporation for public broadcasting) which was financial, and pbs (public broadcasting service)
