Trc acts as the vehicle for this: a re-telling of national identity, it isn"t about accuracy- it is about provide moral constitution. Apartheid: a system of racial segregation, domination and control founded on and reinforced by state/legal violence. Identity is used in a legal way to perpetuate domination. 1948- 1994: legislation was passed prohibiting mixed marriages, making interracial sex illegal, classifying every individual by race, and establishing a classification board to rule in. These identity documents became a sort of passport by which migration to so called white south africa could be enforced. Homelands: system of forced relocation to lands allocated as self-governing, quasi-independent states in order segregate blacks from white, a process of denaturalizing black south africans, the majority population.
