State of the art in law and society. Simplest: how ordinary persons, as opposed to legal professionals or insiders, understand legal institutions and the law and its effect on right mobilization. Some kind of gap between how ordinary people understand law and how legal professionals view it. Example that he gives: when students go to law school, they are thrown off because they are taught law differently and are taught to think like lawyers. So there is a gap between their ideas of law before they go to law school, and after they are attending. Media (television, music, newspapers, books, etc. : example: flashpoint is placed in toronto, however it never makes references to the canadian legal system. Lack of connection between connection to law with popular culture in canada; we only have representations of american legal systems: for example, a lot of canadians know what the miranda rights are.
