Critically assess the word consumer as it is used in psychiatry. To coherently assess the word consumer it is important to critically compare it to the word that it"s being measured against. In this case a patient is an individual whom is receiving medical care or is cared for by a health professional or a doctor. What i found interesting was how dr. healy revealed the methods in which commonly patients rely on a doctor"s clinical knowledge and expertise to guide them throughout treatment. These doctors then turn to evidence based pharmaceutical research that validates their claims. This approach was as dr. healy claimed a form of. This puts doctors in a precariously dangerous position. He also expressed how if doctors were to indicate the risk of pharmaceutical drugs to patients that they may be marginalized and black listed and isolated from their colleagues by the pharmaceutical giants. After all healthcare is a business and business is booming.
