SOWK 3070 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Internal Consistency, Measuring Instrument, Concurrent Validity
Document Summary
These are three important technical concepts in research. Reliability refers to the consistency and stability of the measures you are using. Several factors influence reliability: ambiguous wording, retrospective questions, external factors. This method of reliability test shows stability of the measurement: alternate form test. An alternate form test shows stability and equivalence of measurement. Retest an individual or group with a parallel form but at a different time: internal consistency homogeneity test. Fink (2005, p. 110) says homogeneity, refers to the extent to which all items or questions assess the same skill, characteristic, or quality. This include two different tests: split-half test, coefficient alpha. This is to test if the instrument is homogeneous all the way through. Noted by a value for cronbach"s alpha. The association between split- halves is specifically called the coefficient of internal consistency. This addresses the overall reliability of the instrument. This is a statistic to test if the instrument is homogenous.
