Lecture 1 missed both of week two i believe. Last week was the basics of the professional police model and the move to policing today. Also looked at a film on homelessness and the policing behind it. Broken windows policing: new york city it basically started here, has to do with homelessness also. The idea is that we are responsible for ourselves. The state is less responsible it is more decentralized. Formal definition: neoliberalism- a system of economic ideas and initiatives that emphasizes small government and market based solutions to social and economic problems. Such as poverty and unemployment or homelessness, mental illness, and more. Focus on deteriorated communities that have no access to opportunities: broken windows theory. Repair the broken windows to make a community responsibility. If windows are fixed it brings down crime because the criminal believes they are less likely to get away with it in the end.
