Antipsychotics : lock some dopamine and serotonin receptors. Antidepressants: keep serotonin and norepinephrine around longer. Danger: dependence, addiction, side effects, over-prescription due to monetary incentives. Dangers : unethical or incompetent therapists; non-evidence-based therapies; dependence. Goal is for individual to be integrated into community. Therapeutic and environments: social clubs, drop-in centers. Dangers : coercion by act team; mandatory outpatient treatment has lower threshold than inpatient; difficult to get bed in hospital when needed; burden on family/caregivers; expensive and government less willing to pay; difficult to measure outcomes. Selective: aimed at high risk groups, without symptoms. Indicatied: aimed at individuals with some symptoms, but not meet diagnostic criteria. What explains comorbidity of substance use disorders with other mental illnesses. Comorbidity = 2/+ conditions appearing in the same person.
