Document Summary

Behavioral ecology- study of social relations that concentrates on the relationships between organisms and the environment that are mediated by behavior. Sexual selection- results from differences in reproductive rates among individuals as a result of differences in mating success. Intrasexual selection- results from competition among individuals of one sex for mates (territory, etc) Intersexual selection- differential choice for mates among members if the opposite sex. Population- individual of a pop occupying some specific area and can interbreed. Abundance- the number of individuals within an area (note biomass) Density- the number of individuals within a specific area. Niche- the environmental (abiotic) and biological (biotic) factors that influence the growth, survival, and reproduction of a species. Fundamental niche- the abiotic niche, or the environmental space in which is possible for a species to live. Realized niche- the actual niche space within which a species does exist after the effects of biotic interactions.
