Document Summary

Protobionts ==== we"ve speculated about piecing together dna and rna bases, then surrounding the strand with protein or lipid based spheres and eventually forming something that resembles life. When you"re trying to manipulate dna, the quantities are usually so miniscule that you need a way to increase the amount of interest. The quantity of a particular segment of dna can be quite small in cells and some is invariably damaged or destroyed when manipulated in the lab. Pcr increases the total amount of dna so that that other forms of technology can be employed. Using restriction endonuclease enzymes to cut dna at specific points enables the recombination of dna fragments from two different sources. This method is used to remove and insert genes of interest in the genome of an organism so that it possesses custom engineered traits. Recombinant dna is involves dna from two or more different sources.
