Document Summary

We said on tuesday that corrections is means to fix, to make something better. But our corrections system has a couple of different goals. Goals: social control, we in the us have a set of norms that are acceptable things to do and not to do. When it comes to the law, the purpose of our criminal justice system is a form of social control. Which means we want to keep people following the law, not breaking rules, not committing crime, victimizing others, etc. So the point of our corrections system, hopefully, is to keep us all on the straight and narrow. Now we know, because we have millions of people in our corrections system right now, that not everyone does that. Our corrections system is going to impose sentences whether it be incarceration or probation or the death penalty.
