Police are often unsympathetic for victims and lack empathy just because they deal with victims multiple times a day. Many new officers feel victimized by the media. See the criminal justice system from the inside. Court system - often times, you"ll arrest someone and the courts will plea bargain them down to paltry consequences. Many departments don"t prepare you well for the courts. #1 stressor is police administration and how beat cops feel about them. Agency leadership doesn"t care about them (union leaders, etc. ) Station house supervisors and their distance from the community. Some jurisdictions make chiefs, sergeants, and lieutenants go out and have one shift on the streets a month. Many people just don"t like the police and new officers aren"t used.
