CSD-2259 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Speech Disfluency, Interjection, Developmental Disorder
Document Summary
Smooth, effortless, automatic: disfluency is speech behavior that disrupts the fluent forward flow of speech. Must have at least one of the following: sound and syllable repetitions, sound prolongations, interjections, pauses in words or speech, word substitutions, excess physical tension when speaking: core and secondary features. Speech disfluencies are the core feature, primary characteristics of a fluency disorder. Repetition- when a sound, syllable, or word is repeated several times to the point of interrupting the flow of speech. Prolongation- when a sound is held longer than is normal. Block- when the airflow and articulatory movement completely stop during production of a sound. Secondary features- result fro(cid:373) a(cid:374) i(cid:374)di(cid:448)idual"s e(cid:454)(cid:272)essi(cid:448)e (cid:373)e(cid:374)tal a(cid:374)d physical efforts to promote fluent speech and to disrupt disfluent speech. Develop to escape moments of disfluency: physical/motor behaviors like eye blinks, lip tremors, head-jerks, speaking behaviors such as fillers, pauses, and word changes, negative feelings and attitudes, terminology.
