ES 2031 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Abdominal Cavity, Ureter, Spinal Canal
Document Summary
2 major concepts: function reflects structure, the human body is a group of mutually exclusive organ systems. 6 levels of organization: chemical level, cellular level, tissue level, organ level, system level, organism level. Note that each of these level builds to create the next one. 6 characteristics of life: metabolism, responsiveness, movement, growth, differentiation, reproduction. Homeostasis: feedback systems maintain homeostasis through control. Receptor or initiator picks up the change in the system, good or bad, and sends that information to the control center. Control center or output takes the information from the receptor and interprets it and provides a response as to how to deal with that change. This information is then sent to the effector. Effector or actor receives the instruction from the control center and then makes that change happen. Examples to be given later in these notes. August 19, 2016: feedback systems are controlled in 2 types.
